The concept is a simple one. When we refer to stewardship we are talking about
taking a step back in time; a step back to a simpler time when neighbors helped
neighbors. Back to a time when we were all stewards of each other.
When a neighbor’s barn burned down, the entire community stepped in to
build a new one. When mom and dad got older, we took them into our home and
cared for them. When one of us had a problem, all of us helped find a solution.
“Many hands make light work” was more than a cliché….it
actually had a meaning.
Now we are “modern”. We have “nuclear” families. We
expect the government to be all things and provide all assistance. Social Security
actually provided social security in its original concept. It was a good idea,
born from our desire to help our neighbors. Times changed. Needs changed. The
system changed and now, either we need to pay more and more and more into this
system or it will collapse. So cuts are inevitable to keep the government going.
It is equally inevitable the social needs will be the first to cut back. We
already don’t provide enough help to our brave young men and women who
protect us. We can’t expect the government to meet all of our individual
social concerns and many of the social issues that they do pursue are not on
our “wish list”. So what to do….
Back to a simpler time. Back to taking care of our neighbors with a conscious
effort rather than through a government set-aside. The mission of The HiRoad
Foundation. is to assist in the creation of Stewardship to meet the needs of
those who are deserving. Through stewardship you can help without digging into
your pocket. Here’s one example:
Most everyone has a phone. All of us pay our phone bills. In fact, I pay my
phone bill before I pay myself. That’s the one bill each month that gets
my highest priority. What if up to 10% of the money that I spend every month
for this particular utility were redirected to help a vet? What if I could get
a thousand other people, who are already paying their own phone bills, to join
me? An average phone bill is $50.00. Times a thousand is $50,000.00. 10% of
that is $5,000.00….each and every month. What if we had ten thousand people
paying their bills every month? What if we had a million?
Here’s another example. This website generates $1.00 per month in donation,
just by its existence. I pay $10.00 per month for it and 10% of that is donated
every month, automatically. All I have to do is pay a bill that I would pay
anyway. What if there were a thousand web sites? What if there were ten thousand?
